ABC Charity Corporate Committee Job Description

by mw — last modified 2009-02-12 18:41

Committee members of ABC Charity are our links to the community and as such are essential and important volunteers. Here is a sample of a job description for a Corporate Fundraising Committee.

A commitment to serve as a committee member carries with it certain expectations, both formal and informal. The organization's commitment is to make your volunteer service rewarding and enjoyable and to help you exercise your special skills and talents on our behalf and to acknowledge your contributions.

Opportunities and Expectations:

  1. This committee will be chaired by a Member of the Board of ABC Charity.  Other members of the committee will not necessarily be required to be Members of the Board.
  2. All Committee appointments shall be approved by the Board of Directors as required.
  3. Volunteers are asked to serve a term of one (1) year with a renewable term based upon the recommendation of the Corporate Committee Chairperson.
  4. If a member decides to withdraw early from the committee, we would hope they would assist with a recommendation of a colleague for their position.

Role of Committee Members:

  1. Participate in board orientation to ensure organizational knowledge.
  2. Attend monthly committee meetings (September to June). Please note: these meetings are separate from monthly board meetings.
  3. Help to strategically plan, organize and implement the corporate fundraising activities as they relate to the Corporate Campaign.
  4. This is an action orientated team committee relying on all participants in varying degrees.
  5. The Corporate Campaign will seek to secure the following types of funds:
    a.  Sponsorships (usually for a special event. If they receive public recognition they will be eligible for a business receipt but not a charitable receipt)
    b.  Major Gifts (large donations often given over a specific period)
    c.  Annual Gifts (smaller donations given annually)
    d.  Gifts-in-Kind (services, retail items, etc.)
    e.  Auction Items (for our Gala)
    f.   Ticket Sales to Special Events (event organization is by a separate committee)
    g.  Ticket Sales to Shows (group sales or season subscriptions)
  6. Make follow-up phone calls and arrange meetings as appropriate.
  7. Identify prospective companies from the corporate community that could be approached for support (minimum five).  Please note, formal solicitation meetings should be attended by the Executive Director and Committee Member and anyone else deemed appropriate. This means you are encouraged to discuss ABC Charity over lunch or after a business meeting to engage them and find out their level of interest.
  8. Help the Fund Development Team to building the awareness of ABC Charity in a positive manner.
  9. Work closely with the Corporate Committee Chair and the Fund Development Manager report any fundraising activities appropriately.
  10. Fulfill commitments within agreed‑upon deadlines (i.e. commit to doing what you say you will do).
  11. Support the organization financially at your financial means (Corporate Gift and if not appropriate, individual gift). “Rule of thumb #3, it is bad form to ask for funds if you are not committed financially yourself.”
  12. We would welcome your open, candid and honest feedback and evaluation.
  13. Take initiative in informing the organization about opportunities for funding or program development.
  14. Serve as an informal and enthusiastic advocate for ABC Charity in the community.
  15. Most importantly, have fun together.

Meetings:

  1. Meetings are to be held on a monthly basis (excluding July and August) at a time that is mutually convenient for the committee.

Staff Support of Committee Member:

  1. Attends to details of meetings and informs board members in a timely manner.
  2. Provides adequate preparation for meetings in which committee members must play a leadership role.
  3. Provides complete, concise, and accurate information as required or requested.
  4. Uses committee member's time judiciously.
  5. Meets agreed‑upon deadlines or notifies promptly if deadlines cannot be met.
  6.  Provides prompt response to requests for information.
  7. Returns phone calls promptly.
  8.  Demonstrates candor and respect in individual and organizational relationships.
